Rajya Sabha: Elders rake up unclaimed money in EPFO issue

NEW DELHI: Issue of unclaimed money in Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) was raised in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Ahmad Ashfaque Karim, during the Zero Hour, urged the government to identify those employees who have not claimed their provident fund so far and deposited them in their account.

He also asked for the penalty being charged from the company by the EPFO to be deposited in the employees’ account.

Aam Admi Party’s leader Sanjay Singh raked up the matter relating to disinvestment of public sector units, including BPCL, and said profit making PSUs should not be privatized.

AIADMK’s Vijila Sathyanath raised the availability of porn content on internet and urged the government to ban all those contents on websites.

In reply to it, Minister of Child Welfare Smriti Irani said 377 websites have taken down such contents and FIRs on 50 have been lodged. She also assured the members, if they receive any complaint regarding this, inform her and she would immediately take administrative action.

YSRCP’s Vijaysai Reddy urged the Finance Minister to do away with CIBIL score in granting loan to farmers.

He said, ”Unless the public sector banks not grant loans to farmers liberally at the concessional rate, the farming cannot be done economically.”

TMC’s Ahmad Hasan asked for the status of extended campus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in four states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra and Kerala.

Congress’ Viplove Thakur urged for review in Mid Day Meal scheme and said that the teachers must be kept out this scheme. They should only be restricted to teaching.

BJD’s Sarojini Hembram requested the government to make ropeway in Simlipal Zoo so that the tourism can be promoted.

Congress’ PL Punia raked up the cases of Indians being kept at detention centre abroad. He said the government should make provision for medical treatment and bring them back to India.

Amar Patnaik urged the government to take immediate steps in increasing the tele-density.

BJP member GVL Narasimha Rao spoke in Telugu and raised the issue of Andhra Pradesh government converting all government schools to English medium. He said this will affect the development of Telugu language.

K Ravindra Kumar of TDP also joined the issue. He also spoke in Telugu. He suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct the Mann Ki Baat in Telugu.
Earlier, Chairman Rajya Sabha congratulated the scientists of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for successful conduct of CARTOSAT-3 at Shriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
