JAMMU, June 21: Rakesh Gupta has been elected as new president of Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, elections of which were held today.
Arun Gupta and Sham Langer have been re-elected for the post of secretary general and senior vice-president respectively.  Deepak Aggarwal has been elected for the post of junior vice-president while Rahul Mahajan and Ashu Gupta were elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively.
In a straight contest for the post of president, Rakesh Gupta defeated Parveen Mahajan with a big margin of 501 votes. Rakesh Gupta secured 1237 votes while Parveen Kumar Gupta was polled 736 votes.
For the Post of senior vice president, Sham Lal Langer secured 1111 votes and defeated   Surinder Mahajan who was polled 862 votes.
In a triangular contest for the post of secretary general, Arun Gupta secured 951 votes and was declared elected. His rivals Manish Gupta and Anil Gupta could secure only 787 and   241 votes, respectively.
Deepak Aggarwal, who was declared elected as junior vice-president, was polled 1406 votes and he defeated Bharat Bhushan Gupta with a huge margin of 856 votes. Bharat Bhushan could secure only 550 votes.
For the post of secretary, Rahul Mahajan secured 1328 votes and defeated Rajesh Gupta who got 639 votes.
Ashu Gupta, who was polled highest votes in the election for all posts, defeated Rakesh Jandial with the biggest margin of 1101 votes. Ashu Gupta secured 1531 votes and Rakesh Jandial 430 votes.  Narinder Gupta, who had announced to retire in support of Ashu Gupta was polled nil vote.
The CCI election results were declared by nominated election president Prithvi Raj Gupta who announced the names of winners around 11.15 p.m..
There was straight contest for all the six posts, except the position of secretary general.
Earlier, the bi-ennial election of  the Chamber of Commerce and Industry were held for the term 2014-16 at the Chamber House. The polling began around 10 am and continued till 5 p.m following which counting of  votes  was held.
Before the polling, Annual General Body Meeting of CCI was held.
For conducting smooth and transparent elections, an election committee comprising of   Shiv Partap Gupta,  Rattan Lal Mahajan,  Rajan Gupta and  Rajesh Jain was constituted. Besides, there were  polling officers, special invitees and the poll observers for their fruitful  contribution in conducting the  elections.
