KATRA, May 29: President of Hotel & Restaurant Association Katra, Rakesh Wazir discussed in detail the matter of water crisis in Katra with Deputy Commissioner Reasi Vishesh Mahajan.
Wazir apprised the DC that Katra is passing through a deep water crisis at the moment and there is such a situation that the hoteliers are finding it difficult to get water even through Tankers as outflow of most of the water resources around Katra has reduced drastically or dried up. As a result of this, the people are forced to bring water from Udhampur or faraway places and if the situation is not tackled, it would affect the Yatra vigorously, he added.
Wazir urged the DC for a permanent solution of the problem as well as immediate measures for tacking the crisis. Some Tanker filling points be made functional at Pamote Nallah enroute Katra Narayana, Jhajjar river by installing pumps over there by the administration and the water can be easily lifted, he added.
Mahajan listened to Wazir patiently and assured that besides long term solution of the matter, an immediate redressal of the crisis would remain his priority and suggested filling points be explored within days. If things move well with the combined efforts, the people will find some relief as for as water crisis is concerned, he added.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Katra is experiencing acute water crisis due to scorching summer with a long dry spell of weather, which has caused the drying of major water sources around Katra including almost all of the streams which are otherwise used to cater Katra.
