JAMMU, Dec 1: Rallies, poster making competition and various other activities were organized to observe World AIDS Day.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Choudhary Lal Singh called for launching a movement against HIV/AIDS with the active involvement of various stake-holders of the society, adding that awareness is the key factor to keep people away from this disease.
Minister was speaking at a function in connection with World AIDS Day organized by J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society at Government Medical College (GMC), here today. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare Asiea Naqash, Secretary, Health and Medical Education Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Principal GMC Dr Ghanshyam Dev, Director General ISM Dr Abdul Kabir Dar, Project Director AIDS Control Society Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Baljeet Pathania, Director Family Welfare Dr Baldev Raj Sharma, Controller Drugs and Food Control Society Nazir Wani besides officers of Health and Medical Education Department were present on the occasion.
Choudhary Lal Singh said “The day reminds us of our duties towards the AIDS patients and we all should take a pledge this day to adopt a sympathetic and human approach towards such patients and encourage them to lead a normal life”.
In her address, Asiea Naqash laid stress on holding awareness camps and seminars in Schools and Colleges besides in rural as well as far-off areas of the State for educating youth about preventive measures of the HIV/AIDS.
In connection with World AIDS Day, awareness programme about issues surrounding HIV and AIDS was organized in Government Degree College Kathua.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Chaudhary Lal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking stressed upon the need to accord top priority to redress grievances of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIVs).
Dr Netar Singh, Principal, Government Degree College Kathua also spoke on the occasion.
Debates and discussions were also organized on the occasion among the students.
Earlier, Dr Arun Dev Singh, Convener Red Ribbon Club, GDC Kathua presented the welcome address and highlighted the range and challenges of AIDS in the world and role of youth in prevention and control of the disease.
KC College of Education organized awareness rally on World AIDS Day under the New Red Ribbon Club. Principal of the College, Dr Shamima Bano flagged off the rally from the college to Udhaywala slum area to aware the people regarding the deadly disease HIV/ AIDS. The rally was headed by NSS Programme Officer Dr Deepshikha Gupta and accompanied by Prof Taranjeet Kour, Prof Sunayana Padha and other staff members.
Trikuta Degree College, Nardni-Raipur organized an awareness rally in collaboration with NSS Unit of the college in the village Bajwa Nardani on Worlds AIDS Day. The theme of the rally was to aware the masses about the AIDS. Student interacted with the local people and also visited the Government school of the area. Ritesh Sharma, Managing Director of the College and Japna Sharma, Member Trustee flagged off the rally. Sunita Sharma, Principal of the college also addressed the students.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the NSS Unit of Dogra College of Education organized slogan writing and poster making competitions on the theme “AIDS-Myths or Reality” under the supervision of NSS programme officer Renu Sharma. Principal of the college Shefali Sharma threw light on the importance of the day. In the poster making competition Preeti Jangral and Indika Atri were adjudged first, while Anu Charak, Sindu Bharti, Sonia Kumari and Shashi Bharti were declared second. In slogan writing competition, Bharti, Ranjit, Monika Charak, Indu Sharma, Geetanjali and Roshni were declared winners. The judges of the event were Bela Thakur, Academic Coordinator, Vintee Kumari, Senior Lecturer in Education and Priyanka Sharma, Lecturer in English. Samer Dev Singh Charak, Secretary Dogra Educational Trust and SC Khajuria, Director Administration and Campus Development were also present.
Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing observed World AIDS Day by organizing a poster making competition on the theme “Save a Life Today”, where paramedical students participated. Interactive session on HIV and AIDS was also organized, wherein Rafiqa Bashir, Principal of the college and Johny Kutty Joseph, Vice Principal addressed the gathering. MS Katoch, Chairman of the college was the chief guest. The students also presented a skit on the preventive measures of AIDS.
Ramisht College of Education organized a symposium on World AIDS Day, in which students expressed their views on the importance of the day. Chairman of the College Rajinder Parshad presented certificates and prizes to the participants and winners.
World AIDS Day was observed by the NSS Unit of Chenab College of Education by organizing an awareness programme in New Ambika Public School. Students of the college apprised the school students about the fatal disease AIDS.
World AIDS Day was observed by the NSS Unit of Sant Mela Singh College of Education, Digiana. On the occasion, slogan writing and posted making competition were organized, in which students participated actively. In poster making competition, Gurpreet Kour, Nikha Rani and Damini were adjudged first, second and third respectively, whereas in slogan writing competition, the first prize was shared by Nitika Sharma and Ravinder Kour, the second prize was shared by Bhawana and Seema Devi and the third prize was bagged by Nazia and Monika Sharma. Chairman of the college Anmol Singh and Principal of the College Dr Kiran Luthra expressed their views. Prof Sewa Singh and Prof Charanjeet Kour were the adjudicators.
To mark World AIDS Day, a poster making competition was organized by the Red Ribbon Club of Government College of Education, Jammu. Prof Anju Bala, Dr Raj Singh Narania and Prof CL Shivgotra were the jury members. Bharti Sharma bagged first prize, Sukhmeet Kour bagged second prize and Sonika Thakur bagged third prize. Principal of the College Prof (Dr) Kaushal Smotra was chief guest on the occasion. Dr Piyali Arora, Convener Red Ribbon Club of the College organized the event. The winning students were felicitated by J&K State AIDS Control Society in a function to observe the Day.
In connection with ‘World HIV/AIDS Day’, Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu today organized an AIDS Awareness Rally, which was flagged off by Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College. While speaking on the occasion, she implored students to disseminate the information to all and sundry about this dreadful disease. She also released balloons in the air as a mark of release of suffering restless souls to solace and salvation.
RRC of Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah organized a lecture on “World AIDS Day” under the supervision of Dr Savtanter Kour, RRC convener, who also initiated the proceedings of the programme. A poster making competition on the theme “How to prevent HIV/AIDS among the masses” was also organized. While speaking on the occasion, Dr KR Sharma, Principal of the College stressed on creating linkages between youth and NGO as well as NACO and WHO for updating the knowledge about the disease and selfless service of the youth for this noble mission.
A poster making competition marking World AIDS Day was organized by GDC Akhnoor in which 15 students of various streams participated. The competition was organized by Prof Rewa Lakhnotra, convenor, RRC of the College. Principal of the College, Dr SP Sharma was also present. Diksha Kumari bagged 1st position, while Radha Sharma and Kritika Sharma clinched 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
The Red Ribbon Club of GCW Udhampur organized an awareness programme in connection with World AIDS Day. Principal, Prof KS Koushal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof Ravinder Kour, Assistant Professor in Physics, who was the resource person, elaborated in detail about HIV/AIDS, its modes of transmission, various preventive measures and the need to create awareness. Speaking on the occasion, Principal advised the students to actively participate in creating awareness about HIV/AIDS among common masses.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day, a seminar was organized by the NSS unit and RCC of GDC Mendhar in the College premises. The programme was presided over by Dr Javaid Ahmed Qazi, Principal of the College. In his keynote address, Dr Javaid Ahmed, Medical Officer from SDH Mendhar, discussed overall scenario of this dreaded disease worldwide and cautioned the audience regarding fast spread of this disease. At the end of the programme, students took out an awareness rally on AIDS by displaying banners and placards.
The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Samba in collaboration with Botany and Zoology Departments of the College organized a Quiz competition on occasion of World Aids Day. Dr Romesh Chander, Principal of the College presented key note address and said that youth must be awared about AIDS, its consequence and preventive measures. Five teams from the college participated in quiz competition. The 1st prize was bagged by team D comprising of Himani, Digvijay and Sumit Singh.
To create awareness regarding AIDS among the students, a poster making competition and a talk on various aspects of AIDS was organized by Science club of GCW Kathua in collaboration with NSS unit of the College. The function was presided over by Principal of the College, Dr Satinder Singh. About 12 NSS volunteers participated in poster making competition. During the talk on AIDS, Prof Umesh Chander Kailoo, convenor, Science Club, discussed at length the causes, symptoms and preventions of AIDS along with social stigma associated with the disease.
In connection with World AIDS Day, RRC of GDC Ramnagar organized an AIDS awareness program in the college premises with an interactive lecture as also a discussion hour where the students of the Medical Sciences of B.Sc Part-III interacted with the students of other streams and made them aware about the ignorance, stigmas and ways to remove such ignorance from the society. While speaking on the occasion, Principal, Prof Taranath, stressed on the need of getting aware and creating awareness about AIDS among the masses at large.
To observe World AIDS Day, a seminar on the topic “Role of youth in the Awareness and Prevention of AIDS” was organized by Government PG College Bhaderwah in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control & Prevention Society, Jammu. The seminar was presided over by Principal, Prof ZA Hashmi. Dr Javid Iqbal, Nodal Officer, RRC presented the key note address on HIV and AIDS. He also highlighted the present day challenges of AIDS in the world and role of youth in prevention and control of the disease.
The Red Ribbon club and NSS unit of Government GZSM Degree College, Reasi in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control & Prevention Society commemorated World Aids Day by holding various programes. A poster making competition on the theme of the day was organized followed by a keynote address by invited guest, Dr Minali from Chief Medical Office, Reasi. A skit was also performed by the students of the college to aware the students about the prevention and control of the disease. At last a candle lighting program was also held.
A rally was organised by the students of RM Public School along with their teachers in Bathindi.
The students of 7th class raised slogans and spread the message how to prevent from AIDS. The Students marched into the streets and had conversation with the people. Later, the students shared their experience with their teachers and Principal Ravinder Kour. The teachers accompanied them were Shivali and Ashu Akhtar. The rally was organised under the supervision of Co-ordinator, Middle Wing Arti Rajput. The Trustee Rita Mengi in her speech encouraged the students.
On occasion of World AIDS Day, a function was organized at Government District Hospital Samba. Dr Rajeev Sharma, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Samba presided over the function. Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Government District Hospital, Samba organized the function where prominent citizens, various NGOs, BSF personnel, nursing students and hospital officers and officials participated. Various nursing students gave speeches on different aspects of HIV/AIDS and World AIDS Day. Amardeep Singh, President Lions Club and Dr Arun Sharma expressed their views. Videos were shown to participants related to HIV/AIDS. Maj (Retd) Dr Bharat Bhushan, Deputy Medical Superintendent District Hospital Samba was also present. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to participating nursing students, Lions Club President, Sushma Samyal, Dr Wajid and Dr Sahikrishnan. Blood donation certificates were also presented to jawans who had donated blood on two occasions at BOP Gujjar Chak and BSF Hospital Samba. Earlier, audio van was flagged off from hospital to spread awareness messages.
To observe World AIDS Day, a declamation contest was organized at District Hospital Doda. Chief Medical Officer Dr Kul Bushan was the chief guest. Students from different educational institutions participated in the competition in which Faheeba Batool of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Doda, Ashwani Devi of ANMT School Doda and Shaheen Ishaq of Government Higher Secondary School Boys Doda were adjudged first, second and third respectively. Among district officers Health functionaries, ASHA Workers, ICDS Supervisors and Anganwadi workers participated in the function. A symposium was also was organized at Government Degree College Doda in which Rohi, Musarat and Ajay were adjudged first, second and third respectively. Principal of the College Dr RK Raina was also present.
Gandhi Global Family marked World AIDS Day by organizing an interactive session in spreading counter AIDS awareness among school children. The function was presided by Shakuntala Joshi, GGF Advisor and Senior Principal of Lawrence Public School. On the occasion, Wing Comd (Rtd) MM Joshi presented UN gifts to kids who gave right answers to the queries asked by Joshi regarding AIDS and its crisis. Padmashri SP Varma, Vice President Gandhi Global Family, delivered the UN Secretary-General’s message on World AIDS Day. The event was coordinated and organised by GGF Young Gandhians Manish Joshi and Bhanu Pratap Singh.
On World AIDS Day, an awareness programme was organized at Thyrocare Lab Centre, Gandhi Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, Tarun Singh, president, Shaheed-e-Azad Bhagat Singh Foundation said that prevention is the best remedy to stay away from deadly disease AIDS. Pragya Gandotra, Managing Partner (Professional Diagnosis) of Thyrocare also expressed her views. The programme was compered by Devinder Bakshi, Secretary, YHAI.
On World AIDS Day today, Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation (SNCF) in collaboration with Blood & Transfusion Department of Government Medical College Jammu and JKSACS organized a blood donation camp at GMC Jammu. As many as 50 donors of Nirankari Mission donated blood on the occasion. The camp was inaugurated by Ch Lal Singh, Minister of Health and Medical Education. Ajit Singh, zonal incharge, Sant Nirankari Mandal, Asiya Naqash, Minister of State for Health & Social Welfare and Dr MK Bhandari, Secretary for Health & Medical Education, were also present.
On observation of World AIDS day, J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses in collaboration with MAMTA Health Institute for mother and child and J&K AIDS Control Society, organized social protection event for registered PLHIVs. The event was organized for people living with HIV/AIDS in J&K, under Project ‘VIHAAN’ Care & Support Center, Jammu. Total 45 community members belonging to far flung areas of Jammu region were present. The event started with welcome address by Santosh Kumari. In her welcome address she highlighted the importance of World AIDS Day observed world vide & elaborated on the theme of “Getting to Zero.” A quiz competition was also organized on the occasion.
