Srinagar, Apr 2: The holy month of Ramadan will begin tomorrow on April 3 in Jammu and Kashmir as the Moon has been sighted this evening.
Muslims in this month fast from dawn to dusk and hold night prayers. All kinds of food and beverages are forbidden during the fasting hours.
The holy Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan and it is regarded as the most sacred month in the Islamic calendar.
The Moon for the holy month was sighted a day after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and several other countries said that they will observe the holy month from today.
Aside from the UAE, countries that align themselves with the Saudi Arabian moon sighting include Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Chechnia, Denmark, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mauritania, the Netherlands, Palestine, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Tatarstan, Togo, Turkmenistan, UK, US, Uzbekistan and Yemen.
