JAMMU, Mar 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) executive member Raman Suri has called on the Government to take immediate measures to reform the education system in Jammu and Kashmir, citing severe staff shortages and stagnation in promotions within the School Education Department.
With over 8,000 vacancies in the department, Suri highlighted that the education sector has not received the attention it deserves. The lack of lecturers, headmasters, and principals has further strained the system, particularly in remote areas where appointing teachers remains a challenge.
Pointing to the pressing issue of career stagnation, Suri urged the Government to expedite the promotion of teachers to the master’s level and masters to lecturer positions. He also called for a reconsideration of the Government’s ban on teacher recruitment. While Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers were regularized seven years ago, he noted that vacant positions must be filled urgently to enhance the quality of government schools.
Suri emphasized that the declining standards of public education have fueled the expansion of private schools, making education inaccessible to many. The Government must take corrective measures to uplift Government schools by recruiting teachers and resolving promotion stagnation immediately, Suri asserted.
