JAMMU, Mar 11: Government is serious about effective functioning of Divisional and District Level Consumer Forums set up in the State enabling the consumers seek redressal of their grievances.
This was stated by Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, while chairing a joint meeting of officers of CA&PD, members of the State Commission for Consumer Affairs and Consumer Protection Associations convened to review the functioning of Divisional and District Level Consumer Forums in the State.
The Minister directed the Directors of CA&PD of both the divisions to assign the duties to the Joint Directors of their respective divisions to look after, exclusively, the consumer affairs in close coordination with the Divisional Level Consumer Forums. He also instructed them to ask the concerned Assistant Directors to coordinate with the District Level Consumer Forums so that the complaints of the consumers are redressed without inconvenience.
Member, State Commission for Consumer Affairs, D. K. Kapoor, suggested measures for further streamlining the functioning of the Forums. He apprised the Minister of the problems being faced with regard to derth of staff, infrastructure, and adequate funds for the Forums and enhancement of honorarium to the concerned heads of the Forums.
President Consumer Welfare Association, Vikram Ghour, suggested for intensifying of market checking so that the consumers are not cheated by black marketers and profiteers who just play with the lives of the innocent people mere for petty profits. “There must be a system in place to check the quality and quantity of all consumable products before they go to the people so that they donot buy poison with their own money”, he maintained.
Among others Secretary CA&PD Muhammad Abbas Dar, Director CA&PD Jammu Parvaiz Ahmad Malik, Director CA&PD Kashmir Mir Mushtaq Ahmad, Joint Director (Planning) CAPD Ishfaq Pakchiwal, President, District Consumer Forum Srinagar Shakti Gupta, Member District Consumer Association Jammu D. P. Khajuria and other senior officers attended the meeting.
