Rana cautions quake victims against exploiters

MARMAT (DODA) May 22: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today urged the administration to prominently display the assessment of damages caused to the residential houses and other properties in the Chenab Valley districts, enabling the sufferers to register their objections, if any.
“This will help in dispelling apprehensions and misgivings among the sufferers, as also maintaining checks and balances in the distribution of relief”, he said while addressing public meetings at Paryote, Khaleni, Goha, Humble, Kalhota in  Marmat area of  Doda district.
Mr Rana said that transparency is imperative in distribution of relief to ensure that it reaches genuine and deserved people. He called for impartiality in distribution of assistance and said though the people had immense faith in the administration yet nobody should nurture impression of injustice meted out to him.
While exhorting the people to fight for their genuine rights, he cautioned them not to get misled by the machinations of exploiters and soothsayers. He urged them not to give heed to the mischievous elements who were creating rumours about recurrence of earthquake.  He also advised those habitual of making politics over the miseries of the people to spare, at least, the sufferers who were braving the misfortune caused by the nature.
“At this hour of crisis they needed care and compassion, more than the politics”, he said, adding that the National Conference workers have been asked to suspend their political activities for a month and dedicate themselves for the service of people for a month.
“Rehabilitation of the quake victims, education to children, availability of various utility services, especially medicare, drinking water and power were priority areas, not only for the National Conference but the entire political spectrum”, he observed.
The Provincial President said that the Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is working on various fronts to ensure maximum assistance to the quake victims. In this regard, he made a mention of the interim relief of Rs 25 crore released to the district administrators, three months free rations and provision of temporary shelters.
Addressing the sufferers, District President National Conference, Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy said the massive package will help the people to rebuild damaged houses or to construct afresh fully damaged ones.
Mr Suhrawardy said that his party’s team currently visiting the affected areas has been maintaining close rapport with the administration to ensure that the difficulties of people are solved immediately.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, ex-legislators Th Kashmira Singh and Brij Mohan Sharma also addressed the gathering at these places.
