JAMMU, Sept 4: Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday said that apart from restoring peace and undertaking holistic development, the single most achievement of the National Conference led Government in Jammu and Kashmir has been ensuring people’s participation in decision making at the grass roots level, giving them a right to question besides making administration transparent and accountable.
Interacting with the students of Indian Institute of Mass Communication Jammu at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan this afternoon, Mr Rana said revival of Panchayati Raj System and strengthening of watch-dog institutions will go long way in satiating people’s aspirations in terms of prioritizing development at the basic level apart from making the administration transparent and accountable.
The students posed a volley of questions ranging from performance of the Coalition Government, initiatives taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in restoring peace, combating unemployment, weeding out corruption and building infrastructure.
The students were led by renowned journalist and former President of Delhi Press Club Rahul Jalali, Prof K M Srivastava, Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication and Abhinav Mathur, Assistant Professor. Those who raised questions included Hema Handoo, Kritika Joshi, Gaurav Gupta, Avantika Gupta, Ashim Sarkar, Darpan Mago, Sumeda Sharma, Supriya Bhatia, Youns Ahmed Dar and Diviya Sharma.

He referred to the reconstitution of State Accountability Commission, setting up of State Vigilance Commission and introduction of Public Services Guarantee Act and said these are path breaking initiatives to combat corruption, enable people to seek redressal to their grievances and getting their problems solved in a time bound manner.
When asked about the plank being taken by National Conference in the coming elections next year, Mr Rana said the report card of Omar Abdullah Government would be best bet to go to the people.
