MENDHAR, Aug 1: Senior National Conference leader and president Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Pirpanjal Zone, Javed Ahmed Rana urged Government to immediately gear up its men and machinery to assess the losses caused to crops and infrastructure including roads, bridges, houses, besides loss of livestock due to the flash floods and incessant rains.
In a statement issued to media here today, the former MLA said that people of Mendhar and Surankote have been suffering badly due to the emergent situation on account of flash floods and continuous rainfall. He said that significant link roads have been badly damaged, bridges washed away, besides houses damaged at many places that have been worst affected. He mentioned that the local hospital was also severely affected due to flash floods and consequently connectivity in the region has been the worst affected, badly affecting the local people.
Rana sought adequate package for flash flood affected people of Mendhar and Surankote areas. He asked the Government to come out of deep slumber and address the problems of the people in Mendhar and Surankote areas that have abruptly erupted after incessant rains and flash floods.
The senior NC leader urged the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to direct the District Administration to activate its men and machinery to address the woes of the suffering people in Mendhar and Surankote areas. He said that there is a dire need to assess the damages to the people’s property due to flash floods and pay adequate compensation to them for the losses. He said that till the necessary measures are taken to restore connectivity, the Government must provide ration to the people living in these areas disconnected due to damaged roads.
