Rana terms 2014 as defining year, sees big victory for NC

JAMMU, Apr 20: Describing 2014 as a defining year for Jammu and Kashmir, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Saturday exuded confidence that National Conference will emerge as a political force to reckon with because of its cadre strength and mass base.
National Conference is a mass movement with a chequered history of public service spanning nearly seven decades, Mr Rana said while addressing a series of public meetings here today.
He referred to the sacrifices offered by National Conference workers during most testing times for the just cause of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions and said its selfless service and revolutionary measures makes it a party with difference. He said National Conference has never made distinction between the people on the basis of caste, creed, colour or region and has always strived for the overall good of the people.
He, however, observed that certain elements were endeavoring to weaken the State by exploiting regional and religious sentiments and cautioned the people to remain vigilant against those coming before them in different apparels and employing nefarious tactics.
In a veiled reference to the nexus between Bhartiya Janta Party and People’s Democratic Party, Mr Rana said the duo had a tacit understanding to exploit regional and communal cards with an eye to the ensuing elections. He described PDP and BJP as two facets of the same coin.
The Provincial President said the two parties have seen the writing on wall in the wake of public indifference for their tricky and divisive politics, and added that in their bid of frustration they had lost all decency in attacking the National Conference. He declared that the people and the cadres of National Conference will give them a befitting reply when the time comes.
Responding to the developmental requirements of Nagrota constituency, Mr Rana acknowledged that despite being in the close vicinity of the winter capital the area has not adequately progressed and developed. He assured the people that the Government was seized of their genuine concerns over basic requirements and said these will be met in a phased manner. He reiterated his party’s commitment to the equitable development of all the areas and sub-areas. In fact, the backward, remote and far off areas were getting focussed attention, he said.
Mr Rana said the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has based his developmental strategy on according top priority to the most immediate works, having potential of benefiting larger segments of the society. He also referred to the performance of the Government and said the people were best judges to ascertain what has been done during the past four and half years. This odyssey on the development front and assuaging genuine urges and aspirations of the people, particularly youngsters and educated unemployed will continue with full vigour and commitment.
