BALAKOTE (MENDHAR), Feb 21: Asking People’s Democratic Party to shed the facade of duplicity, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said Mufti Mohammed Sayeed owes an explanation to the people of Jammu and Kashmir as to what transpired between him and top BJP leadership of today during a series of secret meetings in New Delhi.
“There have been series of meetings between senior PDP leaders and close aides of Narendra Modi, courtesy a former IB chief, a female NGO activist and a veteran journalist”, the Provincial President said while addressing a huge NC rally at Dhar Galoon in Balakote this evening.
Mr Rana described the PDP-BJP bonhomie as bad omen for Jammu and Kashmir while citing the track record and communal tendencies of Narendra Modi. He said PDP leaders were waiting in their wings to openly align with the right wing party instead of functioning as its clandestine extension. He said PDP owes its existence to the blessings of Lal Krishan Advani, who hoisted this outfit to weaken National Conference, a representative body of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
“In whatever manifestations the communal and deceptive elements will emerge, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will foil their nefarious plans with full might”, Mr Rana declared, saying the PDP-BJP nexus will not be allowed to trample the secular ethos of this state. “Communal forces will have to make retreat from Lakhanpur”, he said while describing PDP leaders as “Ghar Ka Bedi” who were determined to demolish the secular and democratic character of Jammu and Kashmir.
Cautioning people against the communal elements, Mr Rana said emergence of Modi as Prime Minister will be a bad chapter of secular and democratic India. He hoped that secular forces will join their hands and fight the fascist forces with a sense of grit and determination.
Mr Rana exposed the duplicity of PDP, saying its leaders were saying something in the Kashmir Valley and quite contrary to that in Jammu and Delhi. “Lust for power has left them in lurch where they cannot differentiate between virtue and evil”, he added.
The Provincial President also gave an overview of the achievements registered during the past over five years under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, hoping this odyssey will continue in future as well. “Jammu and Kashmir needs a progressive and forward looking leadership which can be provided by only Omar Abdullah”, he said.
Addressing the workers, Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Javed Rana made a strong plea for medical college in the Rajouri-Poonch belt, saying this is imperative for expanding the reach of professional education to this part of the State, which will help shaping the destiny of enterprising youth. He said National Conference has already taken up this matter, alongside several other issues like rail link to the area, at appropriate levels at the Centre with a hope that early decision will be taken to fulfill long pending demand of the people.
Deputy Chairman seized the opportunity to expose political chameleons, who he said were coming with emotional planks to hoodwink public opinion. “Scared of National Conference, the PDP leaders were indulging in rhetoric and making false claims to hoodwink public opinion”, he said and challenged whether any of its leaders had ever raised the issue of tehsil status for Balakote.
Aijaz Jan, MLA and senior party leader, described the creation of new administrative units a landmark decision, which, he said, has rekindled a new hope among the people.
He highlighted various local issues pertaining to power, drinking water and other utility services, hoping that these will receive top priority by the Government.
