JAMMU Sept 29: MLA Nagrota and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today threatened agitation if the Tehsil Office at Jandrah and other administrative units sanctioned for the Nagrota constituency are not made functional by December 31, 2016.
“The PDP-BJP Government is squarely responsible for not sanctioning and posting staff to the new administrative units in the Nagrota Assembly Constituency, as elsewhere in the State, created by Omar Abdullah Government on 21 October, 2014 as per Cabinet Decision No 187/14/2014”, Rana said, adding that despite assurances no headway has been made so far.
Rana said that the present dispensation is on record having assured in the Legislative Assembly that the matter with regard to sanctioning of staff for Tehsil Office at Jandrah and other administrative units is being examined by the Finance Department. “Twice I raised this issue in the Assembly last year and early this year but except assurances, the Government has not made any forward movement in this regard”, he said, adding that this speaks of the non-seriousness of the PDP-BJP duo in governing the State.
“Instead of taking urgent steps to make the new administrative units functional, senior BJP leaders are roaming in Nagrota and taunting people over delay in making these functional”, he said, wondering how brazenly these leaders were taking pride in admitting their failures. They ought to have been ashamed for ditching and betraying the people, he said this proves beyond any doubt that the BJP is good at agitations and worst in governance.
“Even if the Government had constraints, these units could have been made functional by posting staff under internal arrangement in order to satiate the urges and aspirations of the people and making vibrant the administration”, he said while assailing the PDP-BJP for creating obstacles in taking the administration at door steps. He described the sanctioning of these administrative units at historic, saying the idea was to give respite to people of far-flung areas, who are required to cover long distances for getting their issues settled.
Rana described the present dispensation as anti-people, saying it has failed on all fronts, as a result of which problems of the people continue to accumulate. He took serious exception to delay in posting of staff for newly carved out Jandrah Tehsil and other administrative units in his constituency and threatened to launch a mass agitation if these are not made fully functional by 31st December this year. He said the Government will be fully responsible for the consequences once the people of the constituency take to streets.
