Randhawa calls on Smriti Irani

JAMMU, Oct 20: Former Member Legislative Council (MLC) and Secretary Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) JKUT, Ch. Vikram Randhawa today called upon Minister for Child and Women Development Department, Smriti Irani and discussed the issues pertaining to the welfare of women and children.
During his interaction with the Union Minister, Randhawa took up various issues pertaining to women development and welfare of children. He urged upon the Minister to provide all possible help to the women entrepreneurs of Jammu who are trying hard to establish their own businesses. He also urged upon the Minister for proper implementation of ‘Beti Padhao Beti Bachao’ scheme which would provide a better sense of confidence among the females that they are being treated at par with other genders in the new society. He said the proper implementation of this would also remove gender gap.
Randhawa further raised up the issue of ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ which is being carried out across the nation and informed the Minister that the scheme is benefitting thousands of families living below poverty line. He said that there is dire need to look after such families, children and lactating mothers who cannot afford balanced diet and gets prey to malnutrition.
He also urged upon the Minister to strengthen the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) which is playing a key role in the child development. He said that the number of Anganwari centers should be enhanced and also urged upon the Minister to regularize Anganwari workers rather than disengaging them. He said that these workers have played a key role during COVID-19 pandemic in reaching out to children and families beneficiaries of the scheme.
The Minister assured him that sooner she would visit Jammu again to personally review the activities of her Department.
