JAMMU, Apr 12: In a significant step towards environmental preservation and urban beautification, MLA Bahu, Ch. Vikram Randhawa, today formally initiated the development of a green strip along the canal near Bagad Mandi, Channi Himmat, here.
The project, which has been sanctioned with a budget of Rs. 86.41 lakhs, aims to provide a lush, eco-friendly corridor in the heart of the locality.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch. Vikram Randhawa emphasized, “our vision is to transform urban spaces into green, serene, and people-friendly zones. This project is not just about plantation-it’s about improving the quality of life for the residents of Channi Himmat and setting an example for sustainable development across Jammu.”
The project will include landscaping, plantation of native tree species, installation of benches, walking tracks, and proper lighting-making it a valuable recreational and environmental asset for the local community.
The work is being executed under the supervision of AEE Rajan Mangi, JE Mohd Akhter Giri, and Rajat Gandotra, ensuring technical efficiency and timely completion.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of prominent personalities and local citizens including Nitish Mahajan (Mandal president), Ajay Gupta (Ex-Corporator), Kulveer Charak, Rajinder Koul, Kapil Khurana, Monika Khosla, Indu Puri, Geeta Devi, and others. All attendees lauded the initiative and expressed their commitment to supporting the upkeep and success of the project.
MLA Randhawa also urged citizens to take active ownership of public assets and play a role in maintaining cleanliness and greenery.
“True development happens when the administration and the public work hand in hand. Together, we can make Bahu constituency a model of progress and environmental responsibility,” he added.
