Significantly, the apology came just one day ahead of the hearing of the case listed for tomorrow, that is, on 29th of May, in the Patiala House Court Delhi for the criminal India Penal Code (IPC) suit and a Defamation suit of Rs. One Crore against Randhawa. The two court suits clearly mention that Randhawa should either produce evidence for the unsubstantiated allegations made by him or he should face legal action under the Indian Penal Code and pay damages of Rs. One Crore under the civil suit.
The pre-written note read out by Vikram Randhawa at today’s press conference says. “The allegations made by me against Dr Jitendra Singh during the press conference on 3rd May were absolutely false and I was misguided to make these allegations without verifying. However, after I verified through my sources, I realised that these allegations were absolutely false and baseless. Hence, I have no evidence to prove the charges made by me against Dr Jitendra Singh. I therefore tender my unconditional apology for having made these allegations and also apologise to Dr Jitendra Singh and his family for hurting their feelings. I also give an undertaking that I shall not discuss this matter in future on any media or public platform. I have deepest respect for Dr Jitendra Singh. I also respect him for his honesty, dedication and intellect. I reiterate my sincere unconditional apology to him”.
According to legal experts, Vikram Randhawa will now be expected to produce the evidence of his Press Conference coverage on electronic media as well as print newspapers, along with a personal letter of apology accompanied by a Court Affidavit, following which the Judge will give the petitioner an option to withdraw the case if he is satisfied with the apology.
Delhi based panel of Advocates headed by Advocate Jeevesh Nagrath and comprising Advocates Narender Mann, Chandan Dutta and Manoj Pant representing the petitioner, will respond in the Court after the Affidavit of Apology is submitted on behalf of Vikram Randhawa.
Advocate Rajat Gupta represented the Delhi based counsellors of the petitioner at Jammu.
