JAMMU, July 25: BJP J&K UT Secretary and former Member Legislative Council (MLC) Vikram Randhawa alongwith Member District Development Council (DDC), Geetu Aulakh today toured flood affected areas of Gandhi Nagar assembly segment to take stock of the damages occurred due to the floods in recent days.
While interacting with the people during his visit to various areas, Randhawa said that the floods are occurring because of multiple factors. He said that the new colonies which have been developed in the recent years were raised up without planned drainage system. He said that in the absence of proper drainage system, the rain water is entering into the residential houses of the people.
He appealed to the colonizers to plan proper drains before raising up any residential colony. He also urged the people to purchase plots only in the colonies where proper drainage system is available as it will force these private players in real estate business to ensure construction of drains.
He further said that the encroachment of traditional water channels is another major factor for flooding of residential areas. He urged the people not to encroach the traditional water channels of rain water so that we can get rid of this problem.
“Do not throw plastic here and there as it has become a menace. Make sure its proper disposal or store it at home and sell it to the vendors for recycling”, Randhawa appealed to people.
