Randhir demands security for poor Harijans of village Ghati

JAMMU, Dec 7: Former Minister and J&K chief of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Thakur Randhir Singh today appealed Deputy Commissioner Kathua to give police protection to poor Harijans of village Ghati of Kathua district from land grabbers on polling day.
The request was made by Randhir Singh following a meeting with a delegation of Harijans of village Ghati, who called on him and told they are being threatened of selling their ancestral land by Ex-Sarpanch and local land grabbers.
Stating that the land to poor Harijans were donated by him in 60’s when he was minister, the NCP chief said since then Harijan families have been living there and now their children are being threatened by an ex-Sarpanch and some land grabbers during Panchayat elections.
The former Minister requested the Divisional Commisoner, Jammu to provide police security to these poor Harijan people since Panchayat elections are being held tomorrow (December 8) at Ghati so that these poor Harijans could cast their votes without any fear.
Singh also demanded that a special Harijan colony be constructed by Social Welfare Department and house for everyone be constructed under the policy declared by the State Government.
The delegation of Harijans was headed by Prithipal Singh a social activist and Sub Major Shamsher Singh.
