JAMMU, Dec 7: For third consecutive day today, the Pakistani Rangers today opened firing on the forward Indian posts on the International Border (IB) at Ballarh in Ramgarh sector of Samba district this afternoon.
During previous two days, the Rangers had opened firing at Arnia and Hiranagar sectors.
Official sources said the Rangers opened firing at forward Indian positions at Ballarh in Ramgarh sector of Samba district at 11.30 am today. The firing continued till 12 noon.
The BSF has been maintaining high alert following repeated incidents of firing by the Rangers. Sources, however, said that the militants made no infiltration attempt during the firing.
The firing was reportedly aimed at thwarted the work for installation of high mast lights by the BSF in the border areas to ensure that the militants didn’t manage to take advantage of fog.
The firing was in violation of ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
Yesterday, the Rangers had fired at JCB engaged in labeling of land in forward area of Pansar while a day before they had opened firing in Arnia sector. Three ceasefire violations have been reported from across the border in as many days on the International Border by the Rangers, sources said.
The BSF would lodge a strong protest with the Rangers over ceasefire violations and firing on Indian side, they added.
No casualties or damage was reported in today’s firing at Ballarh post of Ramgarh sector.
Meanwhile, calm prevailed on the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district today as no firing was reported in the area today. Pakistan Army had been resorting to firing and ceasefire violations on the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector for past three consecutive nights.
Sources didn’t rule out the firing on the LoC being an attempt to push militants into this side though movement of the infiltrators has not been observed in forward areas at the time of firing.
Army has already lodged a strong protest with Pakistan on hotline over their continued acts of firing and ceasefire violations.
Army and BSF have been maintaining high alert along the LoC and IB following inputs that the militants could take advantage of upcoming foggy weather conditions and try to intrude into this side.
