JAMMU, Apr 26: A man wanted in rape case was arrested by Katra police today.
According to SSP Reasi Sujit Kumar, a girl hailing from Kalakote, district Rajouri visited her relative’s house at Manwal, where she was raped by Pankaj Sharma, son of Praveen Sharma of Manwal.
After committing the crime, the accused escaped from the spot threatening the girl of dire consequences, if she disclosed the episode to anyone, he added.
SSP disclosed that the girl narrated the ordeal to her relatives, who lodged a complaint with police station Katra and a case under FIR number 53/15 under Section 376 RPC was registered.
The girl was restored to family members after conducting medical examination, he maintained.
On specific information, police team arrested the accused from a hideout, Mr Kumar informed.
Further investigation into the case is going on, SSP added.
Police team headed by ASI Kaku Ram, HC Shoukat, Sgct Shoukat and SPO Omkar Nath made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Katra Kuldeep Krishan and SSP Reasi Sujit Kumar.
