JAMMU, July 13: A rape accused escaped from police custody here today.
As per police sources, a rape accused identified as Pankaj Gupta, son of Tuli Ram, a resident of Sunder Nagar, who was arrested yesterday in alleged rape case, today morning escaped from Police Post Talab Tillo when taken for nature call.
The accused arrested in a case registered under FIR Number 98/2020 under section 376 IPC with Police Station Nowabad, pushed the constable and jumped out of the police post and escaped.
“A manhunt has been launched to trace him”, sources said, adding that a fresh case under FIR Number 99/2020 under section 223 and 224 IPC has been registered against the accused at Police Station Nowabad.
“An enquiry has been initiated after accused escapes from the police custody and if anyone will be found guilty, action will be initiated against him as per law”, police sources added.
When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Shridhar Patil told the Excelsior that a cop has been suspended and an enquiry has been initiated after an accused escape from police custody.
