UDHAMPUR, Nov 18: Two rare Arthoscopy surgeries were performed today in District Hospital (DH) Udhampur by Dr Balvinder Singh, Consultant, Orthopaedics and Anesthetist, Dr Prakash Atri.
The first surgery was shoulder subacromial decompression which is rarely done in north India and other was Arthoscopic meniscus repair of knee, which was done first time in District Hospital Udhampur and first time in history of J&K. It’s not done even in any medical college of the State.
Shoulder Athroscopy surgeries are rarely done in other parts of India. Some states like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore are doing these surgeries occasionally.
Dr Balvinder Singh, who is a pioneer and has expertise in Arthoscopy, did his fellowship in Arthoscopy and Joint Replacement from Germany and was invited many times by AIIMS as faculty to teach arthroscopic skills to various doctors of the country.
