Rare medical condition treated at Dr KD’s Multispeciality Hospital

JAMMU, May 20: A rare medical condition was treated successfully at Dr KD’s Multispeciality Hospital at Marble Market, here today.
A 12 year old girl was referred to Dr K Ds Multispeciality Hospital in view of sudden onset of progressive weakness. At time of admission, patient was unable to move her lower limbs. A team of doctors evaluated the case, made the diagnosis as Guillian Barre Syndrome and appropriate treatment was started within an hour of admission.
During hospital stay, the patient was unable to take oral feeds hence was given tube feeds. As patient had frequent episodes of low oxygen levels in blood, she was kept on high flow nasal cannula.
With appropriate treatment and supportive care by nursing staff, her condition improved gradually. Patient was discharged after 12 days of hospital stay in stable condition.
The team of doctors comprising of paediatrician Dr Deepak Sharma, Dr Devinder Rana neurologist, Dr Pooja Padha emergency physician and Dr Tarun Gupta and Dr Zaid both intensivist played vital role.
Dr Deepak Sharma informed that GBS is a rare and a life threatening condition if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Patient may require mechanical ventilation and prolonged hospitalisation.
