Rare ortho surgery conducted in Sarwal hospital

Jammu, Apr 18: Government Hospital Sarwal has started super specialist sport injuries weekly OPD every Wednesday.
Medical superintendent Dr Harbaksh Singh informed that this new initiative has drawn a good response. Many sportspersons and also other patients with ligament injuries have at ended and taken treatment in sport injuries OPD being conducted by Dr Nipun Kalsotra, Consultant Orthopaedics who has done fellowship in sport injuries, arthroscopy and joint replacement from Germany. He also informed that patients from other districts are also coming for treatment for ligament injuries.
He further informed that last week a patient from Rajouri district attended sport injuries OPD with complaints of pain and instability in his knee Jet for last many months. He was not able to walk properly and perform his routine day to day activities.
He was diagnosed with chronic ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear and tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus. Arthroscopic (button hole) ACL ( Anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction surgery using quadruple hamstrings tendon autograft and partial medial menisectomy with balancing was performed by Dr Nipun kalsotra and other OT team including Dr VishalGupta(ana-Aesthetist).
Patient was made to walk the next day of the surgery, which was performed under PMJAY scheme.
Arthroscopic Button-tole surgeries are being routinely done in Govt Hospital Sarwal Jammu. Earlier for these kinds of surgeries patients had to go out of state and had to spend lakhs of rupees.
