JAMMU, May 11: Dr Retaish Kumar, son of soil and a medical practitioner presently working with Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission Hospital, Jammu has done a new course from USA in “Ultrasound Guided Intra Articular Shots”.
Dr Retaish is one of the very few doctors from Jammu who have done this specialized course. Dr Ritaish (a MBBS, PG Sports Medicine) is running a Bone and Joint Clinic as a Consultant in Orthopaedic OPD for Conservative Management in Swami Vivekanand Mission Hospital.
In “Ultrasound Guided intra Articular Shots” PRP (Plasma-rich protein) is injected into the joints. It is a relatively low pain, low risk procedure that uses patient’s own blood to stimulate growth in injured tissues. It is an effective treatment in managing pain associated with knee, shoulders or any joint Oesteo Arthritis. This procedure is helpful in Oesteo Arthritis knee, shoulder, ligament tear, Meniscal Tear, Golfer’s elbow, Tennis elbow and Achilis tendonitis.
The main advantages of PRP are – Progression in healing, Pain relief typically starts within 3-4 weeks after the injections. Healing with the PRP injections is a better hope because they will stimulate healing “naturally”. It is a regenerative medicine. PRP therapy is three-step procedure which requires four to six weeks apart. The suppression process for PRP is about 15 minutes. A technologist takes the separated plasma and prepares it for injection into the affected area (knee, shoulder, ligament tear, Meniscal tear etc.).
Since Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission Hospital is a Charitable Hospital and Dr Retaish is giving his services for the past seven years. This procedure would be given on subsidized rates as compared to the market.
