JAMMU, Sept 14: Neonatology wing of Bee Enn General Hospital under the leadership of Dr Anumodan Gupta (Neonatologist) diagnosed CDH in a five hour old baby who was then operated within a hour by Dr Rajnish Kumar (Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon).
A handout of the hospital stated that it was a complex case of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) in the baby which was masquerading as congenital heart disease and it needed an eagle eye to chalk out the diagnosis. On admission, the baby was not maintaining respiration and to add to this, she had cyanosis which made the problem at hand extremely complex.
It is noteworthy to mention that such cases seldom survive. However, where in usual the patient take as long as 12-15 days and even weeks on ventilator due to inevitable complicated course of the disease, in this case the patient was healthy and discharged on the 8th day.
