JAMMU, Nov 22: A rate surgery was performed on a 40-year-old man suffering from penile cancer at ESIC Model Hospital, Bari Brahmana.
According to Dr Manoj Bisaria, Medical Superintendent, ESIC Model Hospital, Bari Brahmana, Mr Lal from Gobind Nagar, Kathua was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a form of cancer in penis seven months ago and had given up all hope after two premier hospitals at Jammu declared him inoperable and advised him to go to Delhi for operation as his case was complex.
However, due to financial restraints, the patient was not able to go to Delhi. But he received a new lease of life when he visited the Department of Surgery ESIC Model Hospital Bari Brahmana, Jammu where he met Dr Nadeem Niyaz Jan and narrated all his case, he added.
He said that after a thorough workup, Mr Lal was taken up and extensive surgery was performed by the team of Dr Nadeem Niyaz Jan including Dr Dhruv Gupta, Dr Sunil Kumar, Dr Tilak, and Dr Sonica at ESIC Model Hospital, Bari Brahmana. His tumour was removed in a four hour long surgery.
He informed that the penile cancers are very uncommon, accounting for 0.4-0.6 per cent of all male malignancies. In this case though, the tumour was big and decision to undertake a total penectomy with bilateral radical orchidectomy with perineal urethrostomy was done.
The patient is having a good post operative recovery, Dr Bisaria stated.
