Rashly driven vehicle hits cattle; 2 cows among 25 animals killed

RAMBAN, Apr 12: About 25 cattle including 21 sheep and goats along with two calves and two cows of a nomad family were crushed to death by a rashly driven vehicle which also left 15 sheep and goats injured near CHC, Batote on Batote-Kishtwar National Highway today.
Following the incident, the nomad family staged a protest demonstration and blocked Batote-Kishtwar National Highway demanding compensation from the administration and strict action against the erring driver involved in the accident.
Police sources said that the erring vehicle of Tata Mahindra make load carrier bearing registration number JK06B-0261 ran over the animals and 21 sheep/ goats, two calves and two cows died on the spot while 15 sheep/goats were injured in the accident.
They said that Mukhtyar Mohammad, son of Juma, a resident of Samrili, Udhampur along with his livestock was heading towards pastures of Kashtigargh, Doda and the accident took place while they were on way.
Soon after the incident a cops led by SHO Police Station Batote, Inspector Vikram Parihar reached the spot and arrested the erring driver.
Following the incident a group of nomads assembled at the accident spot and blocked Batote-Kishtwar National Highway demanding compensation.
Later on senior officers from tehsil administration and Police pacified the agitating nomads and assured them of providing every possible help from the administration.
On their assurance, the protestors lifted the Dharna and traffic resumed on Batote-Kishtwar National Highway at around 2 pm.
DySP Headquarters Ramban, Om Parkash said a case in FIR Number 50 of 2024 Under Section 279/429, Indian Penal Code was registered at Police Station Batote in this regard for further investigations.
