SRINAGAR, July 31: The stocking of food grains, petroleum products and key construction material in twin districts of Kargil and Leh is going on in full swing.
The Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, who is also incharge Ladakh Affairs, today took a mid-term review of the stocking of essential commodities, petroleum products and key construction material in these two districts at a high level meeting at Civil Secretariat here.
The Minister for CA&PD, Qaman Ali Akhoon was also present.
While the meeting expressed satisfaction over the stocking of Atta, Rice and Sugar in both districts, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) was directed to further speed up stocking of domestic and commercial gas so that targets fixed in this regard are fulfilled. IOC was also directed to increase its storage capacity along with opening of more petrol pumps in both Kargil and Leh districts.
It was observed that due to inadequate stocking of commercial gas, the consumers are forced to use domestic gas, which has been exempted from taxes from the current financial year. The representative of the IOC assured that stocking of gas and petroleum products will be completed by ending September this year.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited was also asked to dispatch adequate quantity of cement so as to take full advantage of the limited working season.
Mr. Rather called for further push to stocking of essential commodities for ensuring that people do not face any difficulty. He directed the representative of IOC and HP to increase their storage capacity in both Kargil and Leh district.
Regarding regulation of vehicular movement on Srinagar-Leh National Highway especially from Gumri to Sonamarg, Mr. Rather urged for strict adherence to the schedule fixed for both civilians and Army convoys. He asked the Divisional commissioner, Kashmir to arrange a Joint meeting of Army, Beacon and civil authorities to ensure strict adherence on the convoy schedule so that frequent traffic Jams are checked effectively which is the main cause of inconvenience to the commuters. He also asked Director Food and Supplies Kashmir to submit weekly consolidated report about dispatch and stocking of various essentials and other items to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir so that effective monitoring of stocking in Leh and Kargil is ensured.
MLC Kargil Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi, Executive Councellor G.R. Nagov, the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, who is also Incharge Planning and Development, B. B. Viyas, Principal Secretary Power development , Sudanshu Panday, Commissioner Secretary Transport, Pawan Kotwal , Commissioner Secretary Forest , Ejaz Iqbal, DIG , Traffic , S. A. Watali,Chief Engineer R&B Mushtaq Ahmad Lone , Director CA&PD, Mushtaq Ahmad , Managing Director J&K Cement Ltd, R. K. Razdan, Managing Director JKSRTC, J. S. Tandan, Managing Director State Forest Corporation (SFC) Abhay Kumar, representative of Army, Beacon Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
