SRINAGAR, July 8:  Strongly refuting the assertion of the PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that Rs 268 crore earmarked for the Mughal Road have been surrendered, the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said that the statement is factually incorrect.
Rather said that for the Rs 639.87 crore Mughal Road project actual release of funds by the Planning Commission is Rs 546.79 crore against which an amount of Rs 529.27 crore has already been utilized that is 97% utilization of the allocated funds.
The Finance Minister said Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who has been the Chief Minister of the State knows that funds under PMRP never get surrendered but instead they get revalidated from year to year so there is no question of any amount getting surrendered.
He said construction of Mughal Road is moving as per schedule and 85% of the work has been completed and the balance allocation for the project that is Rs 93.08 crore is provisioned for in this year’s plan so to suggest that Rs 268 crore have been surrendered is a blatant lie.
Rather said Mughal Road which is funded under PMRP was estimated at Rs 159 crore by the RITES report of 1999 but the current revised cost (2007-2008) was estimated at Rs 639.87 crore which stands accepted by the Government of India for funding.
The senior Minister said that he is surprised that a person who has been the Chief Minister of the State as also the Union Home Minister has made a statement which is baseless just to play to the gallery. He said it is sad that PDP is in a habit of making false allegations just to sensationalize matters and get cheap publicity.
