Rather’s house attacked, youth shot at

SRINAGAR, Aug 28: Militants today attacked residence of senior National Conference (NC) leader in Budgam district and shot a youth in South Kashmir while massive fire damaged Battalion Headquarters of Army in North Kashmir’s Macchil sector.
Militants today shot at a person at Lorgam village of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Militants fired upon Mohammad Amin Malik son of Ghulam Nabi Malik, resident of Lurgam, Tral outside his residence this afternoon. Amin was immediately removed to Sub-District hospital Tral for treatment.
A police spokesman said that the militants shot at the youth near his home. He received gunshot wounds and has been evacuated to nearby hospital for medical attention.
Police has registered a case in this regard and initiated investigation in the instant matter, the spokesman said.
Militants tried to blow up an Army vehicle in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district by detonating an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The blast was also followed by firing.
Police said that around 3:30 am, militants triggered an IED in Navpora Payeen village of Pulwama district when an armoured vehicle (Casper) of 44 RR was passing through the area.
Militants also fired upon the vehicle after the blast. However, there was no loss of life or injuries.
Militants this morning attacked the residence of senior National Conference (NC) leader and former Minister Abdul Rahim Rather in Central Kashmir district of Budgam.
The security guards deployed at the residence of Rather in Badipora village of the district repulsed the attack forcing the militants to flee from the spot. Rather was not present in the house at the time of the attack and no one was injured in the firing.
A massive fire damaged property in an Army camp in Machil sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this afternoon.
The fire started in Army’s 45 RR headquarters at Hamar Gali in Machil sector in the afternoon. The fire, believed to be due to a short circuit, engulfed the camp having in-store oil barrels, huge arms and ammunition.
At least three soldiers were injured in the fire. Blasts were also heard inside the camp from a distance as explosive material also caught fire.
Seven barracks were gutted along with three office buildings of senior Army officers.
A Defence Ministry spokesman said here: “A fire incident took place in Machil sector at 1400 hours today. The fire was brought under control. Some damage to property took place. However, there was no loss of life. Cause of the fire is being ascertained”.
