SRINAGAR, Sept 13: The residents of several Srinagar areas today staged a protest against the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) for allegedly cancelling their ration cards due to which they are unable to receive the monthly quota of grains.
Scores of people from different areas assembled outside the office of the FCS&CA and were raising slogans against what they termed as official high handedness which has deprived them of their monthly ration.
“Mushi said that a member of our family has been deducted while as the department said that there is no change. Then I went to collect my monthly ration, and I was told that my ration card has been cancelled,” Azad Ahmad Raja a resident of Nowhatta said.
The people said that the officials are telling them that it would take over a month for them to process the ration cards and to address the issue.
“How are we going to sustain for 45 days. We have given all the details and now, we do not know what the matter is. We have been categorically told that we will not get the ration,” an elderly lady from Rainawari who is being denied ration said.
Notably, as per people, there are over 1000 such ration cards that have been cancelled and their holders are facing immense hardships due to the denial of ration.
While admitting the issue, Director FCS&CA Dr Abdul Salam Mir said that there have been duplicate entries in several ration cards and the same is being rectified.
“We have seen that a particular ration card has an entry of a family member who also there on another ration card, such cards have been cancelled,” he said.
