Ration scams continue to surface in this State one or the other day. These incidents only prove that the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department has failed to evolve a foolproof mechanism to deal with such scams. These scams usually surface in remote parts of the State like Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch etc, where officials take advantage of difficult terrain and innocene of masses. It has also been seen that the Depot holders open their outlets at their whims. They never care for the comfort of consumers who have nobody to listen to.
At times, they are silenced not to raise their voices over shortage of ration or less quantity.
The Government should go for Chattisgarh model for sale of ration among rationees. The model has won national acclaim. Hope the CA&PD department ensures that ration reaches the people for whom it is meant and not in blackmarket.
