JAMMU, Aug 1: Adding to the corpus of critical writing in Dogri, ‘Parakh Parchol’, a collection of articles by Dr Rattan Basotra, was released amidst gathering of well known writers, poets, scholars of Dogri, Urdu and Punjabi, at the K L Saigal Hall, here today in a simple but impressive literary function.
Padamshree Jatinder Udhampuri was the chief guest of literary function, which was organized by J&K Cultural Academy. Other members of the presidium included Prof Veena Gupta and Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary.
Dr Rattan Basotra, who is working as Editor, Dogri, in the Cultural Academy is a native of Kah, Nagrota Gujru, Billawar. A post-graduate in Dogri, Sanskrit and Hindi, he has already published books containing anthologies of his critical articles and essay and translated number of books from Dogri to Hindi.
Throwing light on the salient features of Dr Rattan Basotra’s latest book, Prof Sushma Sharma, Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, read a paper on the occasion.
She said that twelve articles in the book comprise of reviews of Dogri books and representative literary features of selected poets, and like Puran Chand Badgotra, Beeba Panchhi, Kuldeep Singh Kippi, Yash Pal Nirmal and Parmanad Almast. While other essays on topics like Contemporary Dogri Poetry-A survey, Patriotism in Dogri Songs, Society in Regional Dogri Novels, Male Ornaments and Dress in Duggar, Balor in Cultural Context and Folk Dance ‘Phumani and Gagail’.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Jatinder Udhampuri, said that critical writing is a responsible act, which demands high degree of objectivity. He said that the field of criticism in Dogri is yet to be developed fully. He urged the scholars to be objective in their approach rather being subjective.
Prof Veena Gupta and Prof Lalit Magotra in their addresses also praised the good work done by the writer. Earlier the function started with welcome address by Savita Bakshi. Vote of the thanks and proceedings of the program were conducted by Brij Bhushan.
