RBI conducts awareness programme on Banking Ombudsman Scheme

JAMMU, Feb 29: RBI Jammu, in collaboration with GDC Women Kathua, conducted an awareness programme on Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) and Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions.
The programme was presided over by P Shimrah, Banking Ombudsman and Ombudsman for Digital Transactions for J&K. H S Verma, Secretary, OBO/ODT was also present. Dr Y P Kundal, the college Principal, teachers, staff members and about 500 students attended the programme.
P Shimrah deliberated on the importance of financial freedom. He emphasised the importance of knowing where the money comes from and where it goes, spending money wisely which means having a budget, saving money and investing wisely. He warned the audience against investing in Get Quick Rich Schemes and mentioned that generally wealth is created in stages and small steps. He said that Banking Ombudsman Scheme which is for common man is a highly successful scheme and informed the audience that last year more than 2.02 lakh complaints were redressed within average time of 47 days. He further explained that the procedure of filing complaints under the BO Scheme is very easy, (complaints can be filed online at cms.rbi.org.in) and grievance redressal in a fair and efficient manner is assured.
H S Verma addressed the participants on the importance of Banking Ombudsman (BO) scheme for resolving Banking complaints. The BO scheme is free, fast, fair and effective mechanism in case the complaint is not resolved by the bank within 30 days of writing to it. He added that in case of complaints regarding use of digital Wallets, Prepaid Payment Instruments, mobile, electronic banking etc e.g. non credit to merchant, no refund of failed /unsuccessful/unauthorized transactions, the same may also be lodged with BO Office, RBI Jammu or email may be sent at bojammu@rbi.org.in.
The programme was compeered by Dr Arun Dev Singh, who advised the participants to be vigilant while using online banking, ATM and not to reveal Pin/OTP to anybody. He appealed the students that they should pass on this valuable information to their parents and friends.
