RBI organizes field level financial literacy & awareness event

RAJOURI, Mar 17: As part of its financial inclusion and awareness drive, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Jammu office, organized a field level financial literacy awareness event, here today.
The event was inaugurated by Shabir Ahmed Bhat, DDC, Rajouri and attended by Ramesh Chand, General Manager, RBI, other officials from RBI, NABARD, local Banks and State Government. Around 500 participants, consisting of Sarpanchs, local businessmen, villagers and students participated in the event.
Ramesh Chand explained in detail the purpose of holding financial literacy camps and its importance to ensure financial inclusion, especially in rural areas. He stressed upon the importance of availability of timely loan to farmers, small traders and weaker section for economic development of the country.
In his address, DDC Rajouri appreciated the efforts of RBI Jammu and advised the participants to avail the benefits of various schemes of the Government and banks.
Vice-President, Jammu and Kashmir Bank touched upon the various products of commercial banks and lauded the efforts of RBI in encouraging financial literacy and awareness.
During the event,  officials from RBI familiarized the audiences about role and functions of RBI in ensuring availability of credit to important segments of economy (agriculture, MSME), financial literacy, Banking Ombudsman Scheme, Features of Genuine Notes, Detection of FICNs, Note Refund Rules, Foreign Exchange Transactions, Non-Banking Financial Companies, Fictitious mails and calls, E-BAAT, Online Transactions, etc. DDM, NABARD, briefed about importance of SHGs/JLGs and various Government schemes.
With the help of SBI, a counter for exchange of soiled and mutilated notes and issuance of fresh notes and coins was set up at the venue which attracted a huge crowd. Local branches of banks opened accounts of customer and also sanctioned loan at the event. Literature highlighting the functions of RBI and on financial literacy and education was distributed to the students and other members of the audience.
The event ended with the Vote of Thanks by Anup Bhat, LDM, Rajouri.
