SRINAGAR, Apr 14: The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of SKIMS today raised concerns over the recruitment of junior faculty and resident staff on an academic arrangement basis.
The association called for a relook into an order recently issued by the H&ME Department which states that recruitment will be based solely on the merit obtained on the MBBS degree.
In a press statement issued by the RDA, the doctor’s body highlighted that the grades/marks obtained in different medical universities are not comparable and vary greatly from university to university.
They further expressed concerns that the order issued will give an edge to foreign medical graduates over local ones.
The RDA has called on the administration of the UT to form an expert committee to review the matter accordingly.
The concerns of the doctors stem from the fact that they believe that the current order may be detrimental to local medical graduates, who may not have had the same opportunities or advantages as foreign medical graduates.
“This could create an imbalance in the recruitment process and negatively affect the quality of healthcare in the region, they said.”
The medico-body has urged the administration of JK UT to take immediate action and address their concerns, while hoping that their call for an expert committee review will be taken seriously and that a more equitable solution can be found for all.
