KULGAM, Dec 14: To protect the inhabitants of Zangalpora, Kilam, Bozgam and other nearby areas from turbulant flow of Veshow River during floods, Secretary Rural Development Department (RDD), Sheetal Nanda today laid foundation stone of flood protection bund at Zungalpora.
She was accompanied by District Development Commissioner, Kulgam, Dr Shamim Ahmad Wani and Director RDD, Qazi Sarwar. The bund will be constructed with an estimate cost of Rs 298.40 lakh under convergence mode.
On the occasion, Sheetal Nanda was briefed by technical wing of RDD on construction of bund. They said that the Bund will help in averting floods and benefit more than 11 villages in the area starting from Village Zungalpora.
Addressing the locals gathered there, Sheetal said that panchayats have a significant role in development of the villages and people should monitor the work which is being executed in their respective areas to ensure that good quality material is being used. She also assured that liberal funding will be provided for the construction of the bund in phased manner.
The Secretary RDD also visited various projects executed by RDD which includes concrete Flood Protection Bund of Chambagund-Kutabal which has been completed in convergence mode already.
Later, she chaired a review meeting with ACD and BDOs to take stock of the ongoing works under current fiscal in the district at Rest House Chawalagm. The ACD presented a power point presentation to brief about work projects which are under process in the district.
Sheetal exhorted upon the officers to complete all the work projects well in time and to gear up their men and machinery for completion of all work projects. She also impressed upon concerned officials to cover all left out beneficiaries under SBM.
