JAMMU, Mar 11: The State Government’s  move of re-engaging senior faculty members after their superannuation and allowing them to continue on their earlier positions, has triggered a strong resentment  within a section of the Medical Education Department, particularly the immediate juniors.
Some junior faculty members are even learnt to have formally conveyed their  reservations over the re-employment of  seniors on the positions occupied by the latter at the time of their superannuation, sources informed the Excelsior.
The Department of Medical Education is examining these representations and trying to evolve  some solution of the problem, arisen following re-engagement of  superannuating faculty, sources added.
The controversy assumes more significance in wake of  the fact that Dr Aniece Choudhary, the Acting Principal of  Government Medical College Jammu, is also attaining age of superannuation next month.
As reported earlier, the Department of Medical Education had ordered re-employment of five senior faculty members, including some Heads of the Departments, in the Government Medical College Jammu and Srinagar, who were superannuating on February 28. As per the Government order, these re-employed Professors were asked to continue on the positions being held by them at the time of superannuation.
The re-employment was necessitated to avoid de-recognition of some  courses by Medical Council of India in view of acute shortage of senior faculty members of the rank of Professor in the Medical Colleges here.
However, the Government move did not augur well within the Medical faculty, particularly those who were to take over as Head of the Department and other important assignments following superannuation of their seniors, sources said.
As the result, sources added, a number of junior faculty members have submitted their representations to the concerned higher authorities  seeking a review of the Government decision regarding continuation of the re-engaged faculty on the positions occupied at the time of superannuation.
When contacted, Manoj Divedi,  Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education  Department, confirmed that the Government has received some representations by the junior faculty members who have reservations over allowing their re-engaged seniors on the positions held at the time of superannuation. “The Government is examining these representations to evolve some solutions,” he added.
