JAMMU, Dec 17: It is painful to come across large number of abandoned mentally disabled people roaming on the road. They can be often seen eating from rotting garbage. Most of the time these people have not taken a bath for years, besides have no shelter and they can be seen on the streets walking barefoot in torn clothes or sometimes naked which is against humanity. This was the observation of former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla after attending a function organized by Sahara Special School and rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged, Trikuta Nagar to celebrate Christmas Day. On this occasion, Director of special School, Rev. Fr. Jose Vadakkel was also present along with children.
Bhalla said that in this competitive world where each parent aspires his child to be leader/topper in every filed, there is a separate lonely world of mentally retorted children. In their world they lead their life in their own way gradually and steadily indifferent to other world. Expressing disappointment, Bhalla said that now people claiming themselves to be intellectuals don’t bother to peep in their world and leave them to lead their lives themselves. They are engrossed in their own world leading their life tension free. Only few people bother and care to peep into their life to know about them.
He urged the youth, particularly students, to contribute more towards protecting mentally challenged persons in the society, considering there was very little efforts from the State and Central governments. He called for awareness programmes to be taken up on a large scale.
