JAMMU, May 12: Denying charges of embezzlement worth Rs 5000 crore and 600 backdoor appointments in the Jammu Central Cooperative Bank, Minister of State for Cooperatives Dr Manohar Lal today said that he was ready to face any consequences if his involvement in embezzlement or among the beneficiaries of plots was established.
Reacting sharply to the allegations appeared in the Press, the Minister while addressing a press conference here said, “SAC should hang me if I am found involved in any bungling or any plot found in my or my family member’s name. I have not received any notice in this regard so far from the SAC. I will respond appropriately. I have due regard and faith in the Commission. Some people have tried to tarnish my image in public”, he added.
Mr Sharma further said he took over charge after 2008, if anything happened prior to that he has nothing to do with that. He as Minister found some irregularities and initiated inquiry and later superceded the Board. He went tough on some officers. Some politicians also got annoyed. Some political rivals are believed to be behind the conspiracy. He refused to name any one but said with the passage of time they will also be exposed.
The Minister admitted some irregularities and recoveries pending but claimed that he tried to bring the system on rails and registered massive improvement in the Cooperatives Banks and functioning of Cooperative department. He said hardly 214 appointments were made in last seven years in JCC Bank and during his tenure some posts were advertised and Board issued advertisement in papers and adopted proper procedure. The qualified people have got selected and moreover, there is no direct control of Government over the Board. The allegations of backdoor entry are baseless, he maintained.
