Real democracy ushered in J&K under Modi Govt: Balbir

JAMMU, Jan 5: Jammu and Kashmir BJP spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, while reacting to the allegation of Congress president G.A.Mir, that ‘Modi Government is destroying democratic institutions’, today said that the Congress leader lacks knowledge of ground realities and was making false and misleading statements. He should have gone public on the issue with the proper updating and facts.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that the entire country knows that there had been practice of appeasement within families in the name of democracy in Congress, Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal and many others and Narendra Modi Government liberalised it, made democracy reachable to a common man by ensuring that ground level democracy prospers in real sense.
Balbir said “If we talk of Jammu and Kashmir, it was the successful conduct of three-tier Panchayati Raj elections, which paved way for shifting the centre of power from Gupkar Road to the villages here,. Today, J&K has democratically elected Panchayats, Block and District Development Councils running to the expectations of the people. The elected representatives have their role in taking decisions in matters of development’’, he added.
The people had been agitating for implementation of the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir for decades but Congress as well as regional political parties did not show any concern towards it. This itself shows their non seriousness towards allowing the democracy to flourish at the lowest level, he said.
The BJP spokesperson mentioned that it was Congress, which lost badly in the elections of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) , which exposed it fully of its lowest ever popularity at the grass roots level.
