The City of Temples Jammu has special blssings of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Bawe Wali Mata Temple at Bahu Fort and Bhawan at Katra are life line of Jammu Division. Once again record pilgrims of ninety lakhs plus show the importance of Jammu on pilgrimage circuit of India. An analysis of SMVDSB data shared reveals after so many years pilgrimage touched ninety plus mark but the fact is despite more than ten years we are nowhere near the record pilgrims of one crore plus in 2012 when peak was achieved and thereafter steady decline despite best efforts of SMVDSB. There are manifold increase in facilities like addition of ropeway to Shri Bhairon Ghati from Bhawan, better tracks, solar lightening, new track and many more but magic figure of one crore plus is still missing. More important is the fact that Jammu Tourism Department has been unable to divert these pilgrim tourists to other adjoining beautiful places like Suriansar or Mansar or another pilgrim spot of Sudhmahadev on the pattern of Himachal Tourism where pilgrims visit different shrines in one go and as such major boost to the local economy. Despite whole hearted support and aid by GoI somehow local tourism has not picked up. On the other hand SMVDSB is trying to create extra facilities like more resting bhawans and for streamlining the entire yatra modern technology methods are there.
