SRINAGAR, Oct 3: A two-day rally to recruit 2,780 jawans commenced in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) in Srinagar on Thursday, a senior Army officer said.
Similar recruitment rally will be held by Assistant Recruitment Officer (ARO) in Jammu and Ladakh also, Commanding Officer (CO) of JAKLI S D Sharma said.
He said about 2,000 candidates have already applied for recruitment and process will continue.
He said there are 2,780 vacancies of jawans and only residents of Jammu and Kashmir can apply. The CO said 50 per cent of the vacancies are reserved for Muslim candidates and another half for rest of the communities.

Sharma said one-third of selection will be made from Kashmir valley.
He said today is the first day of recruitment rally during which candidates will have to go for Physical tests and selected candidates will have to appear in written test in the later stage.
A large number of candidates from different parts of the valley are taking part in the rally today, he said, adding tomorrow the process will continue for selection of candidates.
He said similar recruitment rallies will be held in Jammu and Ladakh regions by AROs.
Meanwhile, despite non-availability of public transport following strike for the past two months against scrapping of Article 370 and 35 A, candidates from different parts of the valley participated in the rally at JAKLI centre today.
“We want to serve our nation,” said the candidates, who participated in the long run and other physical activities.
“Our nation, particularly the state, is facing threat from our enemy and we want to fight against these forces,” they said.
