Reduce Excise Duty on petroleum, slash fare: BSP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 21: State unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has demanded that Union Government should reduce the excise duty on crude petroleum and its products and slash passenger fare and freight charges of goods carriers in the country.
Talking to media-persons here, State president of the BSP Tarsem  Khullar said that with the reduction in the prices of crude oil  in the international market, a steep fall in the prices of diesel and petrol have been witnessed. But the NDA Government instead of reducing Excise Duty has increased it further. And instead of reducing Excise Duty by Rs 9 per liter it has increased it exerting pressure on the public. Mr Khullar further demanded that in order to provide relief to the common masses from inflation, the Govt must go for announcing decrease in the fare and freight charges of public transport.
Mr Khullar stressed upon the Government to work on its already approved agenda of  opening office of Divisional Railway Manager at Jammu as it would fetch more job opportunities for the local youth.
While launching attack on Cong, NC and PDP, Mr Khullar alleged that these parties have failed to implement Mandal Commission in the State and provide justice to the SCs/STs and OBC. The people of these communities are still struggling. The OBC are being given just 2 % reservation in the State which is great mockery. Back log of the SCs has not been cleared in departments, he added.
Senior leaders Tulsi Dass Langeh and  R K Chargotra also spoke on the occasion.
