Refrigerator kit mistaken as bomb

JAMMU, June 28: A briefcase containing hydrocarbon gas, used in refrigerators, was mistaken by the people and police as a bomb and was defused by applying detonators and RDX to it in the border town of RS Pura.
The briefcase, mistaken as a bomb, later turned out to be a tool kit of a refrigerator mechanic containing hydrocarbon gas, repair tools, gas filler, screw driver, wire cutter and gas testing meter etc.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) RS Pura, Diwakar Singh told reporters that the unclaimed briefcase was spotted by some people outside tea stall of Rinku Kumar near Police Parivar Petrol Pump at RS Pura town at 6.15 am.
The people sounded an alarm. Police parties rushed to the spot and called the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
“As the briefcase was very heavy, the BDS shifted it to an isolated area, tied two detonators and 400 grams explosive to it and detonated it leading to a deafening sound which was taken as a powerful blast’’, Mr Singh said.
Panic gripped RS Pura town for sometime as the people though that briefcase was laden with explosive material. Later, police clarified that it a refrigerator repairing kit, which had been left abandoned by a mechanic.
Investigations were being conducted in the case.
