Refugee leaders take up issues with Secy Revenue

JAMMU, Sept 21:  A high level meeting to ascertain the genuine problems and demands of displaced persons from PoK  in 1947, Chhamb  Displaced persons of 1965 and 1971 (camp and non-camp) and West Pakistan refugees of 1947, was held here today  between  the  Relief and Rehabilitation, Secretary, Vinod Kaul   and  the representatives of refugee organizations.
The Revenue Secretary was assisted by Additional Commissioner, Jammu, Robin Singh Mehta, who happens to be the Nodal Officer for Chhamb Displaced Person of 1965 and 1971and Sher Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Jammu.
While all the organisations were represented by their respective leaders, Chhamb Displaced Persons of 1965 and 1971 were represented by SR Nagial , the president of the Association along with five other office bearers.
Giving detail of the problems and demands of Chhamb displaced persons,  Mr Nagial drew the attention of the Revenue Secretary to the comprehensive report submitted to him by the Nodal Officer, relating to the pending demands of these displaced persons, which included sanction of one time ex-gratia to all the displaced families of Chhamb sector, which should not be less than Rs 25 lakh per family, enhancement of rate per kanal for payment of cash compensation in lieu of deficiency in compensation paid earlier for their irrigated and non-irrigated land, approval of supplementary list of 463 DP families of 1971 for payment of cash compensation in lieu of their allotable units of land at prevailing market rates etc.
