Regional Director reviews digitization of land records

UDHAMPUR, Oct 18: In order to review the works of scanning and digitization of revenue records, the Regional Director Survey and Land Records (Ex-Officio Settlement Officer) Udhampur, R K Shavan today convened a meeting of Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Assistant Settlement Officers (ASOs) of Udhampur and Reasi districts.
During meeting, it was apprised by the SDMs that the conduct of Girdawri in Maidani Illaqa was almost complete and the same is being verified to check its authenticity and correctness.
The Regional Director asked the officers to start a campaign against the encroachers of State/Shamlat and Kahcharai lands. He informed the participants that the Government has created the Regional Directorate to expedite the work of settlement and record maintenance in the region and therefore all the revenue officers should work with zeal and dedication to achieve the targets.
It was impressed upon the officers to discourage the absentee land-lordism and ask all the land-owners to cultivate the agriculture land forthwith so that the record is properly prepared and the conversion of agriculture land to non-agriculture purpose is minimized.
The Regional Director informed all the SDMs that the State has Land Utilization Act in force which binds the land owners to bring all the agriculture land under cultivation otherwise the land has to be attached by the District Collector for bringing under cultivation.
It was emphasized that the Agriculture Department has to work in tandem with the Revenue Department during settlement work in order to enforce this Act so that the record is properly prepared and the land owners are identified and recorded as per the ground position.
The Chief Agriculture Officer Udhampur Ajay Kumar Koul also attended the meeting and assured the Settlement Officer (Collector) to put his men and machinery on job for making land owners aware so that agriculture production gets enhanced.
Many other issues pertaining to Jamabandies, Mutations, demarcations and Roshni Scheme were discussed. The Regional Director also exhorted the officers to increase their field touring and submit a copy of monthly tour diaries to his office.
