REASI, Oct 4: Pawan Dev Singh, Executive Member Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) , J&K UT today urged the Government to settle the long pending demands of daily wagers working in different departments.
Talking to reporters here, today he said the demands of daily wagers working in Jal Shakti Department, Forest Department, PDD etc be settled without further delay. He said that the daily wagers of the Jal Shakti Department are on strike as a result of which the general public is suffering a lot. The Department has not appointed any operational staff since 1994 though it has commissioned many projects worth crores of rupees and all the works are executed by the daily and casual labourers.
He said the people are engaged by the Department and given an impression that they will be absorbed in the Department however most of them retire before they are regularised and even the basic salary fixed by the Government under Minimum Wages Act is not paid to them. Most of the employees engaged by the Department are very poor and they are not in a position to maintain their families as they are not paid appropriate salary that too not regularly.
He further stated that same is the case with PDD as well as other departments. He appealed the Lieutenant Governor to frame a comprehensive policy regarding the regularization of the daily wagers working in various departments who are protesting for the last many days and also they be paid Minimum wages as per the Minimum Wages Act.
