REHAI launches ‘Say no to crackers’ campaign; students hold rally

JAMMU, Oct 28: A campaign against crackers was launched by the cadets of NCC Armed wing and volunteers of Red Ribbon Club , Kathua on 28-10-2016, under the supervision of Dr Arun Dev Singh Associate NCC Officer Armed Wing.
The rally was flagged off by Ch Lal Singh, Minister for Forest and Ecology who appreciated the efforts of NCC and Volunteers which are being made to aware the masses regarding the harmful effects of crackers.
On this occasion Dr Bharat Bhushan, ADC Kathua and Director Forest were also present. Dr Nater Singh Raina , Principal of the college thanked Ch Lal Singh for creating enthusiasm among the students in their efforts to save the environment from the hazardous effects of crackers.
The rally started from the college to Mukharji Chowk via Shahidi Chowk and back to college via Krishna colony.
Meanwhile, REHAI an initiative working primarily for animals, undertook an awareness program in various schools regarding crackers.
According to its founder, Malvika Kalra, the objective of the drive was to reach out to as many children as possible about the harm of crackers on the environment and the hazards they pose for both humans and non-humans.
The schools covered were Alexander Memorial, Jodhamal, Delhi Public School, Convent, Nagbani, Sanskriti, Tara Puri, Wonder World, Magic Years, M N KG Montessori, Lawrence, JK Montessori, New Era, Government Girls-Bazaar Qasaban, Government Girls-Gandhi Nagar and Government Boys-Apsara Road.
The material provided to the schools included a banner highlighting the consequences of crackers, a recorded song that was composed and sung by Radha Nagpal and a piece of cloth or paper sheets for signing the pledge. The success of the program can be measured by the fact that almost 5000 signatures were collected in all. MLA Jammu East Rajesh Kumar, also signed the pledge at one of the schools.
The team members also found an opportunity to reach out to hundreds of BSNL employees attending a Diwali mela at Bahu Plaza.
